Classes are a great way to ensure a complete workout, while focusing on a specific fitness interest. During our 30 to 90 minute classes, one of our skilled instructors takes participants through a head-to-toe cardiovascular, strength, yoga or combination workout.

Our classes are structured to challenge you at any fitness level, from low-impact options to recommendations that raise the intensity of your workout. All of our fitness classes are held at the Arena District Athletic Club.

Strength Training

Overview:

Learn how to use strength training equipment and burn calories. Strength Training is a type of physical exercise specializing in the use of resistance to induce muscular contraction which builds the strength, anaerobic endurance, and size of skeletal muscles. When properly performed, strength training can provide significant functional benefits and improvement in overall health and well-being, including increased bone, muscle, tendon and ligament strength and toughness, improved joint function, reduced potential for injury, increased bone density, increased metabolism, improved cardiac function, and elevated HDL (“good”) cholesterol. Training commonly uses the technique of progressively increasing the force output of the muscle through incremental weight increases and uses a variety of exercises and types of equipment to target specific muscle groups. H.I.I.T

Looking to get a high dose of cardio mixed in with your strength training? High Intensity Interval Training is a challenging conditioning group fitness class at our Columbus fitness center in the heart of downtown. This class includes 20-second bouts of high intensity training followed by 10 seconds of rest, repeated eight times, which amounts to four minute intervals. These mini workouts will vary targeting different muscle groups and will use premium fitness equipment throughout the facility. H.I.I.T intervals will test your anaerobic threshold and improve athletic performance while decreasing body fat. The personal group fitness trainer will inject unmatched energy that will inspire you to work even harder. Challenging for intermediate and advanced fitness levels! Spinning

Overview:

The Spinning® program is an efficient way to help you meet your fitness goals. Spinning® classes can be a great way to get in a vigorous workout — burning calories and keeping your muscles in shape. Comfortable workout clothes, a water bottle and a desire to create your own unique fitness experience is all you need to get started. Instructors guide participants through workout phases that include: Warm-up, steady up-tempo cadences, sprints, climbs, cool-downs, etc. You control resistance on your bike to make the pedaling as easy or difficult as you choose.

Sprint Spinning

Need an intense cardio workout in a short amount of time? Sprint Spin® is race day training that challenges your body to work at high heart rates, close to and above your lactate threshold working toward peak performance. You will get your heart pumping, burn calories, get stronger and faster all in 25 minutes. Our spinning® class at our downtown Columbus athletic club offers an aerobic workout that simulates a rigorous bike ride with an instructor who has the power to catapult your fitness to the next level. With great music to pump you up and the only cycling class room to offer black lights, this spinning® class has the power to increase your cardiovascular fitness level and lower body strength while you have fun. Core

Overview:

Get your core working with these classes! Core exercises are an important part of a well-rounded fitness program. Training the muscles in your pelvis, lower back, hips and abdomen is important and leads to better balance and stability, whether on the playing field or in daily activities. In fact, most sports and other physical activities depend on stable core muscles. Strong core muscles make it easier to do everything from swinging a golf club to getting a glass from the top shelf or bending down to tie your shoes. Weak core muscles leave you susceptible to poor posture, lower back pain and muscle injuries. Aerobic exercise and muscular fitness are the primary elements of most fitness programs. Want to gain strength and power to help with all over stability? Try this Hard Core class and get strength from the inside out. Core muscles are important in any workout regime as they can help stabilize the body and prevent injury. This 30-minute class will tone the important core muscles of the abdominals, glutes, lower back, upper thighs, and hips. You’ll use dynamic core conditioning movements along with body weight challenges to get a complete high density group training session that torches calories and drenches your T-shirt. Mind & Body

Overview:

Many people think that yoga is just stretching. But while stretching is certainly involved, yoga is really about creating balance in the body through developing both strength and flexibility. This is done through the performance of poses or postures, each of which has specific physical benefits. The poses can be done quickly in succession, creating heat in the body through movement (vinyasa-style yoga) or more slowly to increase stamina and perfect the alignment of the pose. The poses are a constant, but the approach to them varies depending on the tradition in which the teacher has trained. Yoga teachers will often refer to “your practice,” which means your individual experience with yoga as it develops over time. The amazing thing about yoga is that your practice is always evolving and changing, so it never gets boring. Although the poses themselves do not change, your relationship to them will. Anyone can start a yoga practice, even if you don’t feel like you are very flexible or very strong. These things will improve the longer you practice. Aerobic

Overview:

Cardiovascular exercise, also known as aerobic exercise, uses large muscle groups, continued over relatively long periods of time. When you participate in cardiovascular exercise, your heart rate and breathing rate become elevated. The Centers for Disease Control and Prevention recommend two hours and thirty minutes of moderate intensity aerobic activity every week for health benefits to occur. Since cardiovascular exercise requires energy, the food that you eat, and fat stored in your adipose tissue are used as fuel when you exercise. The longer your exercise session is, the more calories you will burn. When the readily available glucose is used up in your blood, your body will resort to burning extra fat, therefore increasing your chances for successful weight loss. Cardiovascular exercise will also increase muscle tone, which will increase your basal metabolic rate, or the amount of calories it takes to sustain your body’s functions at rest. If you want to add some variety to your workout routine, the Athletic Club offers numerous group fitness classes. The beauty of taking all kinds of classes is the fact that you’ll keep your cardiovascular workouts fresh and avoid boredom in the process. Bootcamp

Overview:

Fitness boot camps offer an opportunity to build your strength, endurance and agility to conquer your daily routine. Boot camp workouts include a fairly intense mix of strength training and aerobic elements stressing calisthenics, such as pull-ups, push-ups, lunges and crunches and sprints utilizing bursts of intense activity alternated with intervals of lighter activity. The goal of a fitness boot camp is to provide a whole-body workout that builds strength and endurance. Boot camps are held at the Arena District Athletic Club which is conveniently located in the Arena District in downtown Columbus, near surrounding neighborhoods including Grandview, the Short North, Victorian Village, and German Village.

fitCamp

Overview:

This class will challenge you in all aspects of fitness: Strength, Muscular Endurance, Cardiovascular, Power and Flexibility. fitCAMP is a shared exercise program focused on quick results and lasting benefits. This unique fitness program is designed to be fun, yet challenging, for all fitness levels. Part of the fun of fitCAMP is that you will share in the support of other campers who are looking to achieve similar fitness results. This shared experience is a big part of what makes this training approach so successful. All of our fitCAMP classes are held at the Arena District Athletic Club which is conveniently located in the Arena District in downtown Columbus, near surrounding neighborhoods including Grandview, the Short North, Victorian Village, and German Village.
