Member Spotlight – Jen & Jake
Jen–I started dating Jake in the summer of 2007. He was an avid gym-goer which motivated me to make a lifestyle change. The mixture of classes, amenities and location made the ADAC a perfect fit!
Jake — We bought a house in Harrison West last year so the location is great. Being able to bike to the gym in the summer is amazing. Plus, Jen would beat me if I went any place else.
What is your favorite thing to do at the club?
Jen–Get a good workout in sending me back to the office smiling. The friendly faces at the ADAC make this task easily attainable.
Jake—I love lifting weights and trying new routines and exercises. Seeing how much I can exhaust a certain muscle group that day.
What is your normal workout routine for a week?
Jen–Five days of 45-60 minute workouts with 4-5 sets per exercise for high reps (12-15). Twice a week my legs get hammered. Also, I incorporate cardio 3-4 days with varying intensities.
Jake—Five to six days a week of weight training depending on my goals at that time. No more than 60-75 minutes a day. Usually, 60 minutes of weight training on a specific muscle group or two. Followed by core work or HIIT for cardio.
What fitness goals or milestones have you achieved here at the gym or elsewhere?
Jen–I started at the ADAC with the foundation of bootcamp class with Lara and spin class with Terry and Velma. Wanting a new challenge, with the assistance of my fiancé Jake and the knowledge of the above mentioned classes, I decided to create my own workouts allowing me to focus on new goals. This was a fitness milestone for me!
Jake—Well, having just had knee surgery my goals have changed somewhat. ADAC will allow me to rehab my knee and legs and get back to where I was both in overall fitness and athleticism.
What are you eating?
Jen–During the week I try to eat clean foods 6-to-7 times per day to keep my metabolism constantly working. On the weekends, I have a little more laxity with what I eat. I love pizza! Everything in moderation.
Jake— It depends on if I am bulking or cutting but overall a clean balanced diet is my goal when I am just maintaining. It’s a very meat-head answer but tons and tons of protein. As Jen said we eat very clean Monday thru Friday. Basically, a lean protein, complex carbs, and good fats. I eat 7 times a day with protein shakes being a couple of those meals. The weekends I tend to relax a bit on the diet especially for dinners. I have not found a diet that includes beer and pizza. It’s a shame that doesn’t exist.
What’s your guilty pleasure?
Jen–Cheese, pizza and anything sweet
Jake—Beer and anything with tons and tons of carbs. Bye, bye six pack.
What hobbies do you have?
Jen–Wedding planning is my hobby right now. Everyone loves a good party and I can’t let them down!
Jake—Watching Jen wedding plan. Looks exhausting. Anything sports related and I love to read.
How would you make the world a better place?
Jen–I would make sure every child felt loved.
Jake—Free beer. Oh, and world peace and stuff.
