Bridal Boot Camp – Day 3

Day 3 – July 8, 2015

OK so today was my first official workout at the Arena District Athletic Club. I sort of wanted to ease myself in since I’ve been on a 3 month plus gym hiatus.

The sad part is that I joined one of those big box gyms last December. At first I was really good about going. But as time went on I just got more and more lazy about going. Now I haven’t gone to any gyms or even done a sad workout video at home in over 3 months.

I ran into excuse after excuse. Here are some of my favorites:
1. It’s too early (at 5 am). Plus my dog needs cuddled for a good 2 more hours. I’d be a bad dog parent if I left him now.

This is Bentley, our Great Dane. He needs his morning cuddle or he gets real cranky.

2. If I go before work, I’ll have to take a TON of my stuff. My own towel, and shampoo and conditioner, not to mention body lotion and all five parts of my grown-up-real-lady make up regimen. (Did I mention that part about how I was home schooled? No older eighth grader ever took pity on me and showed me how to load on the eyeliner. My current make up consists of things I’ve learned from trial and error on Pinterest.)
3. If I go before work, I’ll have to pack my wet towel in my bag and let it sit there all day.
4. If I go after work I won’t get home until 6:30-7 ish and my poor dog will die from separation anxiety. He will die or eat my office furniture again.

He's pretty big, so I don't doubt he could do a number on my office.

5. If I go, I’ll look dumb when I attempt to use that one really cool machine, but fail miserably (This is, unfortunately, a real thing that happened to me. I attempted something I should not have. The appropriate choice would have been to ask anyone how to use it. Instead I sort of just guessed. It was wrong. People saw. I had to leave early. Then I had to wait until my embarrassment levels went down before I could go back.)
6. I’ll just eat less today and it’ll even out. (This is a flat out lie that I try to tell myself. But if you saw my Instagram, you would know that I really, really, REALLY, like to eat.)

Here I am eating at Thurman's. Look at the joy in my face.

7. It’s too far to go during lunch.

Now, when I decided to do this whole bridal boot camp thing, I knew I would need a place that helped me combat all of my excuses. This is why ADAC is the perfect place for me to complete my 60+ day journey of bridal boot camp – it makes my list of excuses absolutely null and void.

For one thing, ADAC is so centrally located that it makes it easy to catch a group fitness class at any time of day. I can go before work (like I did this morning), but still not have to leave my house until around 6 am. I can go after work, which helps me miss that rush hour traffic, but I can still get home at a decent time. OR, and this is the part that I LOVE, I can even run over during my lunch break and catch a quick work out.

I tried to wipe the sweat off after my spin class this morning. I missed some.

The location of ADAC makes it absolutely perfect, but an even better convenience is that they offer so much in their locker rooms. Like I said before, I had a membership to the big box gyms. The one where you have to take everything with you because they don’t offer anything. ADAC is not just a gym. It feels like a spa as soon as you step into their locker rooms. They offer you towels, which is great because if you do workout in the morning, you don’t have to let a soggy one stink up your gym bag all day. This fitness club provides you with shampoo and conditioner too! I love that because I can’t stand the slippery little travel bottles. They have hair dryers you can use, and even have ear swabs and mouthwash. So I can go there and it feels like I’m in my own bathroom, with everything I need, right there for me.

On top of that, they have the nicest, most professional personal training staff I have ever met. If you haven’t met Bill yet, you need to. Bill is the General Manager of ADAC but he also gives amazing fitness advice. His tips and tricks are awesome. All of the other trainers are super friendly as well and are great enough to show a novice like me how to use all of the state-of-the-art fitness equipment. I actually can’t wait to start my one-on-ones with the personal trainers. (Hint hint – Next Wednesday is my first one with Charles!)

This place even works with a nutritionist, Maggie, who is going to help me dispel many of the myths I believe about food and eating.

These are the reasons why I became a member at the Arena District Athletic Club. These are the reasons I’m committed to my Bridal Boot Camp here at ADAC.

Stay tuned…
